Veneers...continued

Veneer Laid In Other Than Running Bond

Anchored veneer laid in other than running bond shall have joint reinforcement of at least one wire, of size W1.7 (9ga), spaced at a maximum of 18 in. (457 mm) on center vertically.

Requirements In Seismic Areas

Seismic Performance Category C - Isolate the sides and top of anchored veneer from the structure so that vertical and lateral seismic forces resisted by the structure are not imparted to the veneer wythe.

Seismic Performance Category D - The requirements for Seismic Performance Category C and the requirements of this section apply to anchored veneer for buildings in Seismic Performance Category D.

Support the weight of anchored veneer for each story independent of other stories. Maximum horizontal and vertical spacing are unchanged.

Provide continuous, single-wire joint reinforcement of minimum wire size W1.7 (ga) at a maximum spacing of 18 in. (457 mm) on center vertically.

Seismic Performance Category E - The requirements for Seismic Performance Category D and the requirements of this section apply to anchored veneer for builidings in Seismic Performance Category E.

Provide vertical expansion joints at all returns and corners. Mechanically attach anchors to the joint reinforcement required in Section 12.12.2.4 with clips or hooks.

Manufacturer's Comment: The Wire-Bond Clip conforms to requirements in Category E for seismic performance. The Wire-Bond Clip is welded to the adjustable hook. Continuous wire fits into clip providing a single unit for stability. Wire-Bond Clip may be welded into an system using double hook for adjusting such as RJ-711 or double hook and eye or adjustable tab systems.
